A Few Questions About Gayle
What first drew you to photography?
I've always been fascinated by people. My father gave me my first camera when I was young, and I quickly discovered that photography was less about taking pictures and more about noticing people—their expressions, quiet moments, and the stories they carry.
How would you describe your style?
Simple, timeless, and honest. I work primarily in black and white because it removes distractions and allows emotion, light, and human connection to become the focus.
Why do you love to travel?
Travel reminds me how beautifully different—and surprisingly similar—we all are. Every place has its own rhythm, but everywhere I go, I'm drawn to the people. Some of my favorite conversations have happened with complete strangers in places far from home.
Has becoming a mother influenced your photography?
Absolutely. Being Mia's mom has taught me to appreciate how quickly life changes and how precious our memories become. It has deepened my desire to create portraits that families will treasure for generations.
What inspires you as an artist?
I'm inspired by authenticity. A weathered face, thoughtful eyes, laughter, silence, the ocean, beautiful light, and the stories people often don't realize they're telling. I believe every person has something remarkable worth seeing.
What do you hope people feel when they see your portraits?
I hope they feel seen. My goal isn't simply to create a beautiful photograph—it's to create a portrait that reminds someone of their own strength, humanity, and the life they've lived.
